Citizenship Grant
Permanent Residents of Canada can apply for Canadian Citizenship after living in Canada for a certain period of time and meeting other requirements. Main requirements are:
- Permanent Resident Status - must be a PR at the time of application.
- Physician Presence: must have lived in Canada for at least 1095 days in the past 5 years.
- Income tax filing: must have filed taxes for at least three taxation years in the past 5 years.
- Language Abilities: Must have English/French Proficiency (for applicants between the age of 18-54)
- Knowledge of Canada: Must pass the Citizenship Test (for applicants between the age of 18-54)
Proof of Citizenship
Certain individuals who may have a claim for Canadian citizenship can apply for a Citizenship Certificate directly. One typical example is individuals born outside Canada to at least one Canadian parent (first generation born abroad), who may have a claim for Canadian citizenship by descent. This is however limited to first-generation born outside of Canada.
